  1. Welcome to Fourth Grade ! Mrs. Block 2013-2014

  2. Nancy Bierschbach Block • I grew up in Webster. • I graduated from the University of South Dakota. • I taught 2nd grade in Wyoming and 5/6th grade in Minnesota and Head Start in Webster. • I have been teaching at Webster since 1999.

  3. What Happens in Fourth Grade? • We read tons of great stories. • We set goals and reach for the stars with AR. • We write about our thoughts, opinions, and information we’ve learned. • We master the location of all 50 states. • We explore many Science topics. • We ace fractions, decimals, and cover lots of numbers. • We improve our keyboarding skills.

  4. Reading is HUGE in 4th Grade • Fourth graders are expected to read every night for 15-20 minutes in their DEAR book. • It is your job to have parents sign your planner each night and return it to school each morning with your DEAR book. • I check planners at 8:30. If yours is missing or not signed, you need to make up the reading time at recess.

  5. Math is everywhere everyday • We begin each day with Math. • The IXL site is a valuable tool. • You should spend 10-15 minutes on IXL at home several nights each week. • If you don’t have a computer at home, we’ll talk about ways to work it out.

  6. Homework • If you pay attention use your time wisely, you should finish homework in about a half hour. • All homework is due the next morning. Anything unfinished will be counted wrong. • If you forget your homework you will need to do it over at recess. • If you forget too often, we will have a problem.

  7. Expectations • I expect students to listen the first time. • I expect students to do their best with a positive attitude. • I expect students to be well behaved, especially for other teachers. • You can expect me to help you learn. • You can expect me to work hard each day with a positive attitude.

  8. I Almost Forgot…. • We work hard. • We are responsible. • We laugh and make new friends. • We do our best! • We have fun learning.
