  1. Young carers’ worries, difficulties and concerns School of Health in Social Science Martina Coccia My name is Martina Coccia and I am a PhD student from Edinburgh University. Not sure what this means? Well, I am a sort of junior researcher. I work with a few more experienced professors who are supervising my project. There is a lot of information describing what young carers are as well as the tasks and responsibilities which they have in their families. Most information is around young carers living in England. However, very little is known about how young carers feel. This is especially true for Scotland. My aim is to understand what are your worries, difficulties and concerns. This will help people who support young carers to understand how they could improve their work. Joanne Williams I will write reports and articles about my findings which I will make available to you. You can also find more information about this project on this blog: http://youngcarers2013.wordpress.com/ I’ve created this for you, so why don’t you have a look? I would like to ask you to fill out a questionnaire. You can either fill this at home accessing it online, from your support organization’s office where I can bring you a paper or an electronic copy of it helping you out to fill this out. This will take about 20 minutes. There are no right or wrong answers and you don’t have to give me your name. I will not be able to link any answers to you. That means that all the information you give is anonymous. So you can be free and honest when filling out the questionnaire. Matthias Schwannauer You are free to choose whether you would like to take part. You can also decide stop filling the questionnaire any time. Rowena Arshad

  3. Young carers’ resilience School of Health in Social Science Martina Coccia My name is Martina Coccia and I am a PhD student from Edinburgh University. Not sure what this means? Well, I am a sort of junior researcher. I work with a few more experienced professors who are supervising my project. • There is a lot of information describing what young carers are as well as what tasks and responsibilities they have in their families. Most information is around young carers living in England. • However, very little is known about how young carers manage stress or react when they feel upset or worried. This is especially true for Scotland. • My aim is to understand how you handle stress and what makes you feel good about being a young carer. • This will help people who support young carers to understand how they could improve their work. Joanne Williams I will write reports and articles about my findings which I will make available to you. You can also find more information about this project on this blog: ………………………………………………………………..I’ve created this for you, so please have a look at that! I would like to ask you to fill out a questionnaire. You can either fill this at the Festival or you can access it online, from home or from your support organisation’s office. This will take about 40 minutes. There are no right or wrong answers and you don’t have to give me your name. I will not be able to link any answers to you. 4. Teenage carers’ worries and resilience School of Health in Social Science Martina Coccia My name is Martina Coccia and I am a PhD student from Edinburgh University. Not sure what this means? Well, I am a sort of junior researcher. I work with a few more experienced professors who are supervising my project. • There is a lot of information describing what young carers are as well as the kind of tasks and responsibilities which they have in their families. Most information is about young carers living in England. • However, very little is known about teenage carers’ worries and about their ways of managing stress when they feel upset or worried. I would like to ask you to take part in a few interviews. If you agree, we will meet once a month for 6 months. The idea is to get to know you, to listen to your stories, to find out more about your daily life, your struggles and what makes you happy. Each interview will last 45 minutes and will be audio-recorded so that I can transcribe and analyse it later. I will interview you in a quiet room of the support organization’s offices you are in touch with. However, be sure that when I analyse my findings, I would not use your real name but a fake one and everything you say will be kept confidential. Matthias Schwannauer You are free to choose whether you would like to take part. You can also decide not to continue being interviewed at any time. Rowena Arshad
