  4. Elements … • Reliability in Assessment Consistency refers to the same judgments being made in the same or similar contexts • Assessments should not be influenced by bias, different assessors, applying different standards, assessor evidence, assessor assumptions

  5. Elements … • Practicability in Assessment Practicability refers to availability of financial resources, facilities, equipment and time

  6. Elements … • Credibility in Assessment • Fairness + Validity + Reliability + Practicability = Credibility • Ethics in assessment: - results of assessment can lead to increase in pay, improved career prospects

  7. RPL & Assessment RPL is giving credit to what learners already know and can do regardless of where the learning was achieved • There is no fundamental difference in assessment for previously acquired skills and assessment of a current learning process

  8. Moderation & Assessment Moderation ensures that people who are being assessed are assessed in a consistent, accurate and well-designed manner. Moderation of assessment occurs at both the level of the provider (internal moderation), and at the level of the ETQA (external moderation).

  9. SAQA Moderationsystem NSBs - submit qualifications with moderation options ETQAs – establish moderation systems for accredited providers Providers – establish internal moderation systems in line with the ETQAs Moderating bodies – are appointed by SAQA to assure consistency in unit standards and qualifications across one or more ETQAs

  10. Moderation system • HOW DOES MODERATION OCCUR? Moderation systems combine external and internal moderation. Both external and internal moderation systems must ensure that all assessors produce assessments that are credible, fair, valid, reliable and practicable.

  11. Assessment • ASSESSMENT Assessment can make or break the system if not done properly
