Modern-day anxiety therapy looks nothing like the painful protracted treatments of last century. Today the emphasis is on helping people become far more resilient, and giving new strategic methods how to act and think when anxiety arises. Many people ask about anxiety treatments for anxiety. Anxiety treatments can involve many different paths. Each with their pros and cons. Today, the most common is cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT looks at how you behave and think when you are anxious. It teaches you how to change your thinking and how to act in order to feel better. Cognitive behavior therapy has taken many different forms. One form would be exposure therapy. This involves being placed in an environment where you will be exposed to a stimulus that triggers anxiety. You are then guided through a series of situations in order to see if you become anxious. If you do, you are taken back into the environment until you are not anxious anymore. The exposure really works to help you become less anxious. When you are anxious, cognitive behavior therapy also looks at how you think. You learn how to make rational decisions and learn how to think like a scientist. Another form of anxiety treatment is guided imagery. In this you are asked to imagine your fear and anxiety sensations rising until they are unbearable. From there you are instructed how to hold the image until it loses its strength and finally you are asked to think about a safe environment. Other forms of anxiety treatment include relaxation techniques. This can help reduce anxiety and panic attacks. Any of the above forms of anxiety treatment would be a help in the short term.
