  1. Iceland is just perfect for anyone wishing for the perfect weekend getaway. The scenery is unique as are the people and foods. One can make it a hectic tour of Iceland for 48 hours or one can spend the time in solitude at one with Mother Nature. For those with limited time at their disposal, one of the best ways to take in Iceland’s most popular attractions is to join a local tour of the Golden Circle, the first thing to do during the Iceland travel. Travelling in a 4x4 is a heady experience vastly different from the customary minivan tours. The vehicle itself is different, mounted on giant tires making it capable of travelling over any terrain and with ample space inside to make for a comfortable Golden circle journey. The one day tour starts from Reykjavik with the first stop at the famed Thingvellir National Park, a World Heritage Site about 45 km away with the unique and enchanting scenery. Knowledgeable people offering Iceland travel tipsrecommend a 4x4 jeep because it can go anywhere and it is so comfortable for the day long travel.

  2. Next in line is Gullfoss Falls, a two shelf waterfall with a breathtaking view from the top. One can climb down for a head on view and the experience is quite simply out of this world. Geysir is quite different. Instead of water cascading down, you get to see hot water spouting high up into the air with steam for the company making it a sight to remember. Strokkur is another fountain geyser one gets to admire. It erupts regularly at 4 minute intervals. Enjoy your Iceland tourand proceed to Glacier Langjokull and, if you like to go to the very edge or indulge in snowmobiling for a few minutes. Lunch along the way in a typical Iceland restaurant presents a menu of wholesome meals. If the driver is so inclined he might just drive off the road and take guests to hidden treasures not normally found on tourist maps. Next on the itinerary is Kerid, a 55-meter deep caldera of an extinct volcano, filled with blue water, an enchanting view. Guests return to Reykjavik after a day long ride discovering the marvels of Iceland. The day, however, is not over.

  3. For the night one can book a Northern Lights minibus tour. The best place to see it is just a few miles outside Reykjavik and the best thing about this type of tour is that if the elusive Northern Lights do not put in an appearance, the tour operator will offer another chance free of charge. If it is visible one can be up for hours admiring the grand spectacle in space over Icelandic skies. Next day one can set off in another direction to explore Landmannalaugar where one can bathe in geothermal pools. En route one stops at the Hjalparfoss waterfalls for a breather and lunch and then proceeds to the valley of Gjain where the sight of the waterfall Sigoldufoss is just stunning. Crate Lake Blahylur is next and the Blue Pool crater is another marvel of nature. These are the spots one must visit during the two days one has at one’s disposal during the tour of Iceland. It usually leaves visitors thirsting for more and a promise in their hearts to return.
