  10. Part of Avnet Logistics Also providing logistics services such as: 3PL warehousing transportation management demand planning logistics network management reverse logistics services for companies within the electronics industry. connector and cable assembly Existing and NEW Customers now have access to these great services

  11. Serialization Overview Device Serialization Process of programming unique data into each IC No two serialized IC’s are the same Serialized content can be Serial numbers, MAC addresses, RFID tag, DOCSIS certs, HDCP keys, License key or a combination of entities. Used in computer networking, module authentication, user authentication, voice, media and data transmission and intellectual property protection Custom programs written to handle specific requirements are needed. Existing and NEW Customers now have access to these great services

  12. Where is Serialization Used? • Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) • Cable Converter Boxes • Cable Modems (DOCSIS) • Satellite TV and Radio Receivers • Cell Phones • Passports (RFIDs) • Laptops, Netbooks, PCs, Servers • Automotive Key Fobs

  13. Laptop Serialization • Network Interface Card (MAC Addresses) • Wi-Fi Card (MAC Address) • USB Controller (Serial Number) • Video (HDCP and DTCP keys) • Boot ROM (Serial Number)

  14. Examples of Serialized Data • Serial Numbers • MAC Addresses • SAS Identifiers • WWN Identifiers • VACs (Vehicle Access Codes) • HDCP Keys • DTCP Keys • License Keys • CA Pairing Keys • Private and Public Keys • CACP and DOCSIS Certificates • RFID Tags • UIDs • HMACs • Cryptographically Strong PSKs

  15. Key Serialization Features • Preventing Duplication • Traceability • File and Data Storage • IP Security • Concurrency (High Volume) • Scalability (High Volume)

  16. Duplication Can Wreak Havoc • Theft of services and IP • Deliver data to the wrong destination • Disable the wrong automobile (On-Star) • Unlock the wrong vehicle (VAC) • Provide access to wrong personnel • Facilitate identity theft (RFID tags) • ARP cache corruption • Network traffic collisions

  17. IP Security

  18. Obtaining Serialized Data • Range – start, end, and increment • MAC Addresses, Serial Numbers, etc. • Data File • CA or DOCSIS Certificates, HDCP keys, etc. • On Site Key and Certificate Generation • Generate ahead of time and store (preferred) • At production time (impacts cost and throughput)

  19. Security vs Production • Security • Protect Private Keys • Protect Certificates • Protect IP • Secured Devices • Prevent or obfuscate content read back • Physically destroy failures • Production • Needs access to all content • Must verify all programmed content • Needs traceability • Must verify and analyze failures and RMAs (return material authorization) • Verification method must support volume (Handlers) • No Verification – No Liability – No Exceptions
