  1. The Frequency of Repairs and Maintenance Related to Electric Underfloor Heating Electric underfloor heating is not a novel idea; in fact, it has been around for several decades. However, it is something that will never go out of style, particularly in the UK where temperatures regularly plummet below freezing. The way in which electric underfloor heating works is by heating a room or a section of a room with a system of electric cables that are laid in the actual floor itself. This mesh of cables will be installed just below the level of the floor that is walked upon and will be well-insulated to protect the cables from the loss of heat. Electrical underfloor heating runs off of the ordinary electrical supply of the home. Some people may believe that electric underfloor heating is very expensive because it is connected to the power grid that powers the home. However, it is quite easy to control the heating independently, which means that separate rooms or areas can be programmed individually using a thermostat. In this way, the home can save a lot on energy costs by simply optimizing the use of electric underfloor heating. Electric heating when used in flooring is best used in smaller and single rooms. Rooms such as the bathroom and kitchen will do well with electric underfloor heating, and many people also choose to have it installed in the bedroom or living room, particularly if they don’t have a fireplace in either. There are other available systems for heating the home via the flooring, one of which is a wet underfloor heating system that uses hot water that runs from the boiler along pipes in the floor to heat rooms. However, electric underfloor heating is typically a lot cheaper to install than a wet underfloor heating system. The good news for those that either have or are considering electric underfloor heating is that it is typically a maintenance-free addition to the home. It does not require a lot of checkups and can generally be run for a very long time with no issues. It is, however, recommended that the homeowner regularly services the system to ensure that it remains efficient. A certified and professional electrician will be able to perform routine maintenance to service your system at a fair price. These services will generally only be to ensure that the system is still functioning at an optimal level. If you do service your system regularly, it will mean that you will ensure that your system is running at maximum efficiency all the time instead of slowly declining until it simply stops working one day. Regular servicing will reduce the probability that the system will suffer a breakdown and it will also ensure that the system does not decline in its performance. A build-up of debris can cause the system to become inefficient in that it uses a lot of energy but doesn’t adequately heat the rooms it is supposed to. In this case, you will just be losing money. It is best to have your electric underfloor heating system serviced annually or at least once every two years to ensure that it is functioning optimally. Furthermore, a well-maintained electric underfloor heating system will not simply suffer a breakdown but it is also time to call in the experts if your system is not heating all or some of the rooms it is installed in properly are inconsistent in its heat output or you have received an unnatural and alarmingly high heating bill. All three of these scenarios are red flags that indicate your system has suffered a malfunction or has an issue, and that it is high time to call in the expert help of a qualified and experienced electrician.
