  1. Leave Nothing To Chance All owners of firearms, all shooters and hunters have their preferences when it comes to the discipline they enjoy best, and therefore what rifle or firearm they will acquire. Of course, the choice of rifle or shotgun will always be an important choice for the individual, and it is often dictated by personal choice, which is fine since there are so many good brands out there whether you prefer a Ruger, a Harrington & Richardson, Remington or Savage – or one of the many other options which are available to hunters and shooters. Not only the rifle brand or type of shotgun one acquires plays an important part in terms of being a successful hunter or shooter, but also natural skill and, certainly, the scope on the rifle. The scope - or telescopic sight - that is fitted on top of the firearm is extremely important when it comes to accuracy, which is not negotiable for the shooter and serious hunter. Many hunters buy everything they need from the same retailer, which, for some, also includes the sights. Many others, however, prefer not to: they buy their sights separately, much as they may choose to buy their ammunition from another source, for example. And others, still, enjoy some DIY and prefer to mount the scope on top of the firearm themselves. This is quite a common practice, and these rifle owners will look around for the sights, but also a system that allows them to mount or fit the scope on top of the firearm. Therefore they will look around for the best scope mount system from retailers in specialist gun and rifle shops – or from advertisers on the internet, such as a good website, or those dealers and suppliers that such websites or manufacturers employ to help them market their products. The system normally consists of a base piece and rings, as well as additional screws, for example, with instructions from the manufacturer or dealer about fitting the system on the firearm. There are choices: you either buy a 1- or 2-piece system, depending on preference. Both assist with accuracy (when fitted perfectly to ensure the telescopic sight does not move as you fire the shot; it has to be fitted well so it always stays in place) and boils down to choice.

  2. These are available from dealers – and on websites. It is important to find the best, sturdiest base, and rings to ensure you mount the scope properly. A strong system helps keep the sight in place and helps prevent movement thereof when you fire. Also, even if you have a good base and rings and you do not mount the system properly according to the manufacturer’s instructions, you set yourself up for failure no matter which system you mount. You will certainly compromise accuracy, which is probably one of the most important issues when you shoot or hunt: you do not want to miss your target – and worse still, you do not want to simply wound an animal that gets away. Further, bad installation or fitting of your system may lead to other problems such as causing damage to scopes and receivers. Therefore some rifle owners ask a professional gunsmith to assist them with the installation, but many others do it themselves with great success. A good tip is to ask the retailer what they would recommend: DIY or asking a professional for help. They will tell you. Some systems are steel whereas others are made from aluminum; both are reported to be good, with the personal choice the deciding factor especially for those that prefer a slightly lighter system – the latter is often the choice in this case. Thousands and thousands of rifle owners fit their scopes every year, whether on a new firearm or as a replacement. It is not difficult. Simply find the best retailer whose products are known to be quality – and easy to fit. Leave nothing to chance.
