  5. Jose:Good afternoon, Jennifer. Thank you so much for taking some time out of your busy schedule for this interview. Jennifer: Good afternoon. Thank you for choosing to interview me. Jose: I’ve heard so many wonderful things about you. I can’t wait to get started. Jennifer: I’m so flattered. Jose:Well, first of all, tell me where you’re from and what you do in Korea. Jennifer: I’m from Washington State in the USA, and I am a Speech and English professor at Jungwon University. Jose: That’s fantastic. I’m sure you’ll have lots of wisdom to share with our readers today. Jennifer:Well, thank you. Jose:Ok, let’s get into some of the good stuff. Jennifer: Absolutely. Jose: I heard you lived in Pakistan. Could you tell me one of the most important things you learned while living there? Jennifer:Hmm. How to choose? I think the most important thing I learned was not to judge people because of their religion or how they looked or what they wore, because if you look past those things, you could be friends. Jose: Wow! It’s great to have friends from all over the world. Here’s another question. I know you’re musically talented. Could you tell our readers what you try to convey in your music? Jennifer: Ok, my greatest desire is to illustrate the words that I’m singing with matching expression, being loud or soft or sad or happy, so that my audience can feel the message in their hearts. Jose: That’s beautiful. Do you get a chance to perform often? Jennifer: Probably 7 or 8 times a year. Jose:Sounds like you’re quite the performer. Awesome! Let’s go on to something else. You seem to be very kind and happy. Is there anything that really irritates you? What is one of your pet peeves? Jennifer:I think one of my biggest pet peeves is when people cough near me without covering their mouths because I was taught that it was polite to do so. And also I don’t like to get sick. The Song of Life in the Key of Love Jennifer Leigh McGhee, professor of Speech and English at Jungwon University.

  6. Jose: Yes, that’s right. We need to stay as healthy as possible, especially with this changing weather. Have you ever gotten seriously sick from someone coughing on you? Jennifer: Yes, sadly. Last spring my students got me very sick. I was sick for about three weeks with a terrible flu. Jose: Yikes! That sounds awful. Well, make sure to take lots of Vitamin C. Keep that cold away. Jennifer:(chuckles) Thanks. Jose: I know you’ve spent most of your time in Seoul, the big city. Now you’re out in the country, surrounded by nature, and I must say, you do seem to be loving it. Jennifer: Why, yes I am. Jose: That’s great. What connection do you feel with nature? Jennifer: I love nature. Um, every day I look for new signs of spring. I take pictures of most of the flowers I see. And one of my favorite things is to sit by a stream and listen to the water and the wind and the trees. It makes me feel at peace. Jose: Wow! I feel like I’ve just spoken to a great master of philosophy. Jennifer: You’re too kind. Jose: Goesan has lots of nice places in nature to visit. Could you recommend a place for us? Jennifer: It’s not very far away but one of my favorite places is the river in Goesan. But not just the river. You have to go to the middle of the river and sit down on the rocks and enjoy the sunshine. Jose: That sounds adventurous. Well, we’re running out of time, but I’d like to ask you one more question. May I? Jennifer: Certainly. Jose : To end our interview, could you tell our readers what your ultimate goal in life is? Jennifer: To sing the song of life in the key of love. It’s a quote from one of my favorite writers, Morris Venden. Jose: That’s very deep . Well, it’s been amazing talking to you. I hope to get the chance to talk to you again and know more about you. Thank you so much. Jennifer: Thank you for your excellent questions. It was a pleasure talking with you as well. Jennifer enjoying one of her favorite activities.: sitting on rocks in the middle of the river.
