  1. Juiced.GS Keeping it alive in 2002: how Syndicomm revolutionized Apple IIGS newsletter production Ryan M. Suenaga, M.S.W., L.S.W. KansasFest 2002

  2. From Max to Syndicomm, with love • At KFest 2001, it was announced that founder Max Jones would transfer publication of Juiced.GS to Syndicomm. • Ryan Suenaga would take over editing duties from Max Jones. • Syndicomm would handle the day to day business operations of Juiced.GS.

  3. Under Max: Writers submitted articles to Max. Max did the editing, page layout, graphics, printing, addressing, stamping, and mailing. Very labor intensive for one person. Under Syndicomm: Writers submit articles to Ryan. Ryan and Mr. Gagné do the editing. Ryan and Max do the page layout and graphics. Sheppy deals with the printing service that prints, addresses, stamps, and mails. From one pair of hands to many

  4. Help from across America

  5. Using the Internet • Email list for all staff members • http://www.juiced.gs/ World Wide Web site • Electronic submission of completed document to the printer.

  6. Mixing the old with the new • Page layout continues to be done with GraphicWriter III. • GW III documents are converted to PostScript. • PS documents are moved to the Mac, imported to Acrobat.

  7. Keep Mixing • Adobe Acrobat Distiller converts PostScript to Acrobat. • Adding graphics and final touch up is done in Adobe Acrobat.

  8. Finally • Final PDF submitted to Sheppy. • Printers print, collate, and ship to domestic subscribers. • Sheppy ships to international subscribers. • The cycle starts over again.

  9. Juiced Announcements • Bad news: subscription prices will increase • Good news: Juiced.GS will continue in 2003 (well, probably more than that) • More good news: KFest 2002 attendees renew at 2002 rates • Two new staff members: • Richard Bennett-Forrest of Australia will be writing an article related to his Juiced.GS presentation • Doug Cuff of Canada will be coming on board the Juiced.GS staff
