  1. Curriculum Review LOG 101 Acquisition Logistics FundamentalsPresented to theLife Cycle Logistics (LCL) Functional Integrated Product Team (FIPT)Presented byT. B. Johnson, CSCPPerformance Learning Director, Acquisition LogisticsDefense Acquisition University

  2. LCL Competency – DAU Curriculum Crosswalk Legend: • Principal course that addresses the competency Deployed course/significant upgrade in progress • Courses where the competency is a major learning point New course in development/planning Addressed, but not major learning point

  3. Discussion Topics • Course Background • Key Personnel • Updated Course Content • Graduate Throughput / Metrics That Matter (MTM) • Course Structure and Format • Current Status • PLD Assessment • Questions & Answers

  4. LOG 101 Course Description • “Acquisition Logistics Fundamentals provides a broad overview of the role of acquisition logistics in the systems acquisition life cycle and systems engineering processes. Modules cover the logistics-relevant aspects of requirements identification, life-cycle costing, integrated product and process development, sustainment logistics, supportability analysis, product support, contracting, and contractor support.” –DAU iCatalog • “New” 101 (Version 9) initially deployed in July, 2010 • Revision drafted Summer, 2011—will be Version 10 • Principally to reflect recent policy/guidance changes • Past history indicates high demand…#1 most popular LOG course (usually), #3 overall at DAU • Data distorted for FY11 due to Atlas outage LOG 101 is the “gateway” course to DAU LCL training – First Impressions!

  5. Key Personnel • Key Personnel • Course Manager • Mike Bayer, DAU Midwest • LCIC Performance Learning Director • Terry Johnson • Course Manager Regional Representatives • Capital and Northeast: Jim Curry • West: Andre Murphy • Midwest: Mike Bayer (CM) • South: Hal Ernest • Mid-Atlantic: Pat Conroy • LCIC Instructional Systems Design • James McDaniel

  7. Metrics & Demographics (cont.)

  8. LOG 101FY11 Demographic “Fun Facts” • Less than half (44.26%) took 101 for DAWIA certification • 23.05% “General Interest” • 32.69% “Core Plus” for career field • Of total career fields represented, only 13.26% of respondents were in Life Cycle Logistics • 5.22% of total were “Acquisition Logistics” • Remainder were “Sustainment” or “Don’t Know” • 18.44% of respondents identified themselves as being in the SPRDE career field • Largest career field represented outside Life Cycle Logistics

  9. Structure & Format • “New” LOG 101 has 7 modules: • Module 1: The Role of Life Cycle Logisticians on the Integrated Program Team • Module 2: Understand Operational Support Requirements • Module 3: Design for Supportability • Module 4: Develop the Support Solution • Module 5: Establish the Life Cycle Sustainment Plan • Module 6: Management Tools Used in Acquisition Logistics • Module 7: Logistics Management and Oversight • Major areas addressed in Version 9: • 3 generations of DoD 5000 series and CJCS 3170 series behind!! • Numerous policy changes (KPPs, PBL, 805, IUID, LCSP, data mgmt, tech readiness, etc.) • “Stovepiped” presentation of modules • Some redundancy with newer LOG and ACQ courses (i.e. LOG 102 and ACQ 101)
