  1. Warmup: A drawing of the base of my house is below. I want to plant flowers around my entire house. How would I go about finding out how many flowers I need? (Each flower covers about 2 ft. from left to right).

  2. Section 1.9: Perimeter, Circumference, and Area LEQ: How do we estimate area, perimeter, or circumference of an irregular figure?

  3. Perimeter: The sum of the side lengths of a polygon • Area: The number of square units enclosed by a polygon • What is a square unit?

  4. Square • Perimeter= 4s (s=side length) • Area=s2

  5. Rectangle • Perimeter= 2L+2W • Area=L(W)

  6. Circle • Circumference= 2r, r=radius • Or D, D=diameter, why? • Area=πr2

  7. Postulate 1-9: • If 2 figures are congruent, then their areas are equal • Postulate 1-10: • The area of a region is the sum of the areas of its nonoverlapping parts.

  8. A carpeting specialist has to lay carpet in the room below. How many square ft. of carpet will he need? Ft.

  9. A circle has an area of 144. What is the diameter? • If a rectangle has a perimeter of 24 cm. and a length of 5 cm., what is the width?
