As in our clinical work our aim is to maximize children’s communicative abilities in the classroom. Each course provides participants with ideas/strategies and background linked to facilitating children’s communication skills. The programme developed out of our work supporting children with communication difficulties in mainstream schools. It is difficult to pass on background information (the WHYs) or discuss strategies (the HOW to) during school visits. Accredited training courses are increasingly suggested as integral to a child’s Speech & Language Therapy Care Plan. Our goal is to facilitate Communication Support for children who may experience lifelong communication disability. Allocation of Places Places will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis and will require payment with registration. Drinks are available but lunch is not provided. Applications are accepted up until 10 days before a course (BUT please note courses are usually oversubscribed well before this). Makaton training can also be bought in for a setting or group settings. For further information please contact Kate Tole, Speech & Language Therapist on Tel: 01535 292824.

  3. Makaton Payment Criteria On certain courses a proportion of places are held back and allocated on clinical need. A reduction in cost will be granted to school staff by a child’s Speech & Language Therapist prior to the course. Unfortunately this does not guarantee a place. If you feel you are eligible for a reduction in cost you will need to discuss this with the child’s Speech & Language Therapist.
