  1. Oprah Winfrey "I always feel if you do right, right will follow." Oprah By: Haley Smith

  2. There are an elite group of famous people who are recognized immediately by their first names alone. Among them, however, there’s only one that we all know intimately. Oprah is not just another famous entertainer. She’s a friend to the world and a role model for all people, of any gender, of any race, of any group. Her warmth as a human being inspires and influences the millions worldwide who watch her daily yet never meet her in person. In 1998 talk show host Oprah Winfrey was voted the second most admired woman in America, with Hillary Rodham Clinton being the first.

  3. The Oprah Winfrey Show entered its 13th season in 1998. By then the show had garnered 30 Daytime Emmy Awards and that year Oprah, at the age of 44, was honored at the Emmys with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

  4. That, along with her other work, has made Oprah one of the wealthiest women in the United States. She is worth an estimated $600 million. • In addition to the show, Oprah has a string of honors and achievements. She joins Mary Pickford and Lucille Ball as the only women to own their own movie production studios. She earned a Golden Globe and an Academy nomination for her performance in The Color Purple.

  5. But not only is Oprah successful, she is uniquely American. Black, southern, born out of wedlock and into poverty, she has faced many kinds of adversity. • Nevertheless, at a very early age she decided – she chose – to take charge of her destiny and become a woman of influence.
