  1. God is Righteous Deuteronomy 32:4

  2. What is righteous? • Tsaddik’- Hebrew translation of righteous • Dikaios- Greek term • Both terms denote the rightness, correctness, or moral excellence of God. • God is an absolutely righteous being and always acts in a way that is perfectly consistent with who he is.

  3. The Righteousness of God • God’s righteousness is intrinsic or inherent. • Righteousness is not merely something that God decides to be or do, but it is essential to His very nature-He is righteous. • The righteousness of God, one of the most prominent attributes of God in the Scriptures. Initially, distinguishing the righteousness of God from His holiness or His goodness seems difficult. In addition, the righteousness of God is virtually synonymous with His justice. • Righteousness ,in relation to men, is their conformity to a standard- Richard Strauss

  4. Name, Title, and Description of God • Significance- it communicates about His character • Psalm 7:9-”O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.”

  5. Scriptural Declarations on God’s righteousness and His works • Deuteronomy 32:4 – The God who is the foundation of righteousness, who is faithful, just, and absolutely perfect in His ways. • Job 36:23- His ways are perfect. • Psalm 36:6- God’s righteousness is greater and more majestic than the highest mountain, and more profound and unfathomable than the deepest sea. • Psalm 89:14;97:2- righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne

  6. Scriptural Declarations on God’s righteousness and His works (cont.) • Psalm 119:142-”Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true.” • Jeremiah 9:24-”I am the Lord who exercise kindness, justice and righteousness on earth for in these I delight.” • Job 4:17-19, Isaiah 5:16, 45:21- God’s righteousness surpasses all others (transcendent)

  7. Scriptural Declarations on God’s righteousness and His works (cont.) • Psalm 7:11-12, 11:7- God is not morally neutral or apathetic. He fervently loves righteousness and hates all unrighteousness. • 2 Chronicles 19:7, Job 8:3; 36:23, Psalm 9:7-8, Zephaniah 3:5- God will rule over His creation without caprice, partiality, or injustice.

  8. We must then say the righteousness of God is evident in the way He consistently acts in accord with His own character. God always acts righteously; His every action is consistent with His character. God is not defined by the term “righteous”, as much as the term “righteous” is defined by God. God is not measured by the standard of righteousness; God sets the standard of righteousness.

  9. How do we act, live and respond to God’s righteousness? 5 Ways… • We should fear the Lord and live righteously before God.(2 Chronicles 19:7, Ephesians 4:22-24, 1 John 2:29; 3:7) • We should live with great confidence in God and His care of us. ( Psalm 92:15, Isaiah 41:10, Isaiah 42:6) • We should live a life of worship, praise, and rejoicing before God. (Psalm 96:11-13, 145:6-7, Daniel 4:37, Revelation 15:3-4)

  10. How do we act, live and respond to God’s righteousness?(cont.) 4. We should live a life of prayer before God. ( Psalm 145:17-19, Luke 18:7-8) 5. We should proclaim the righteousness of God to all people. ( Psalm 40:10; 71:15-16;145:3, 6-7;147:1, Jeremiah 9:23-34, 1 Peter 2:9)

  11. Application/Conclusion So then, we are not only mandated to speak the truth, but we ought to be compelled, from the inside out, with God centred motives, to make known what God has said is right and wrong because it is a revelation of His holy character and because there is coming a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness. Let us then, by the grace of God, speak the truth in love so that men and women may see the righteousness of God, their spiritual poverty, and the need for a Saviour who could rescue them from the wrath of God.

  12. Reflection When God the Father sent His Son to the cross it demonstrated not only His mercy, but also His righteousness(Rom.3:25). God did not overlook the sins of Abraham, or Moses, or David, or any of His own, He made sure every sin was paid for. Imagine that? What a glorious news! He would not suffer His righteousness to be moved. That is why every sin will be paid for somewhere. They will either have been paid for by Jesus Christ upon the cross or for eternity in the lake of fire. Such a reality makes the Gospel all the more precious to our ears while it remains imperative to proclaim. Let us also not forget the amazing transaction that happens to one who is justified by faith alone in the work of Christ…Christ is declared to be their sin bearer and they are the recipients of His righteousness! As it is written, ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”-2 Corinthians 5:21. Amen…
