  4. Graduation Requirements Class of 2015 • English 4 credits • Math (equiv. Algebra 2) 4 credits • Science 3 credits • Social Studies 3 credits • Fine Arts 0.5 credit • Health 0.5 credit • Physical Education 0.5 credit • Consumer Econ. OR Econ. & Financial Literacy 0.5 credit • Electives 8 credits • Total 24 credits • Pass all 5 sections of the OGT

  5. What is considered a Fine Art? • Drama/ Theater • Music/ Band • Visual Arts • Graphic Art/ Design

  6. Consumer Economics or Economics & Financial Literacy (11th and 12th grade) Consumer Economics- taught in Business Department Economics & Financial Literacy - taught in Social Studies Department * Either will meet the requirement for graduation and have the same curriculum. • If you took Business Management Foundations I it will meet this requirement. • If you have taken Business Management Foundations I – you MAY take Consumer Economics or Economics & Financial Literacy.

  7. Grade Promotion- Senior Status? • 17 credits by August 1st

What Colleges Like To See • 4 credits of English • 4 credits of Math - Algebra II or higher • 3 credits of Science – with significant lab experience • 3 credits of Social Studies • 2 or more years of a Foreign Language (3+ is nice!) • 1 credit of a Fine Art • Competitive Colleges: • AP, honors or accelerated courses (most rigorous courses) • Class rank (top of class) • Cumulative Grade Point Average • Good ACT or SAT scores • Attendance • Letters of Recommendation • Essays

Academic Diploma with Honorsmeet 7 of 8 criteria below • 4 credits of English • 4 credits of Math – must include Algebra II or its equivalent • 4 credits of Science - including chemistry and physics • 4 credits of Social Studies • 3 credits of one foreign language or 2 credits of two foreign languages • 1 credit of a Fine Art • 3.5 Cumulative GPA (minimum, unweighted) • 27 ACT or 1210 SAT score

  10. Office or Guidance Aide • Criteria : • Must be a Senior • Passed all 5 parts of the OGT • Apply for permission • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better • Maintain good conduct • Please number 1-2 in order of preference. Can work up to 2 trimesters, if approved. • Cannot guarantee a specific trimester. • Applications can be picked up after the presentation. • Return application by February 14th with your course selection form.

  11. Early Graduation (EG) • End of 1st or 2nd trimester • Must meet with your Guidance Counselor to discuss possible EG • Approval and paperwork needs to be turned in before May 31st • Cannot participate in athletics if your not in classes • Can attend dances, prom, and graduation • Fill out schedule as if you are not an EG, we will make changes once approval has been granted. • Must pass all five sections of OGT • Please place an “EG” in the top right corner of the registration form if you plan to do this. • NOTE: English 11 Acad. – in order to take Senior Composition and graduate, Trimester 1.

  12. Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) • Mandatory meeting for Student and Parents on Monday, February 10th, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the HS Gymnasium. • Place a “PSEOP” in top right corner of registration sheet if you think you may do this. • Sign up to take the ACT or SAT as soon as possible if you plan to do PSEOP next year. • Must meet college PSEOP requirements in order to participate in program. • Guidance website has PSEOP institution requirements. (free/reduced lunch) • * As of now: Schools in Ohio that require scores sent directly to the university are: OSU, Miami, U. of Cinn., Case Western, NCAA, NAIA – put codes in! Save money!

NCAA or NAIA Eligibility • If you are planning on playing Sports in college make sure you take a look at the NCAA and NAIA websites. • Communicate to your guidance counselor that you want to play sports in college!!! • Know the criteria needed to play sports at each level. • NCAA – www.eligibilitycenter.org • NAIA – www.playnaia.org • Must take Academic English 11 and Academic English 12 or Honors. Regular English 11 and 12 will not be recognized by NCAA .

  15. Alternative Credits Options for Failing Classes: • Summer School – 3 credits (maximum) • Correspondence – 2 credits (maximum) • NOVA NET – no limit –placement by counselor

  16. Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) • Upper classmen who still need to take/pass the OGT. • Intervention class to help pass OGT • Test Dates • March 2014 • Summer 2014 (optional) • October 2014 • March 2015

  17. Physical Education Waiver • Waive P.E? • Must complete 2 seasons of a sport, cheerleading and/or band. • Once you have completed the 2 seasons you can obtain a P.E. waiver form from your guidance counselor. • Signatures from student, parent, athletic director or band director are required.

  18. Advanced P.E. Courses REMINDER - Advanced P.E. courses now require: 1. “B” average or higher in P.E. I and P.E. II classes. 2. Students must maintain a “B” average or higher to continue in an advanced P.E. course – any grade lower than a “B” students will have those courses removed from their schedule. • If you have waived your P.E. credit please place a W and an X in the box next to the Advanced P.E course you would like to take. Examples: X-W or 1-W

  19. Medina County Career Center • If you are a student that attends the MCCC place “MCCC” in the top right corner of the registration form. • Half day students will need to sign up for 6 trimester classes.

  20. Reminders • Academic Letter Awards – Must have a 3.5 GPA for 1st and 2nd trimesters • Athletic Eligibility – Must pass a minimum of 1.7 credits each trimester and earn a 1.0 GPA. (pass 4 of 5 classes with D or higher)

  21. Pre-requisites • Pre-requisites (PR) are courses that you must take in order to take the next course. • Examples: • Ceramics 1 - PR - Art 1 (101,102) • FST – PR – Algebra 2 • Biotech - PR - Biology Honors and Chemistry Honors or Biology and Chemistry and 3.0 GPA in courses with instructors approval. Seniors only. • Sequence charts in registration guide will help.

  22. Registration Information • Select the following required courses by marking the course selections with an “X” in the “Student Request” column: • English • Senior Composition (recommended for academic and honors English students) • Consumer Economics or Economics & Financial Literacy (if not taken in 11th) – If you have taken Bus. Mangt. Found. I you do not need to take this. • Select elective courses by marking the course selection sheet with an “X” in the “Student Request” column. • Select 5 additional elective choices by writing a “1”, “2”, “3”, “4”, “5”, in order of preference in the “Student Request” column. • We will use the additional 1-5 choices if there is a scheduling conflict with your elective choices.

Registration Information (Cont.) • Discuss your course selections with your parent/guardian and make sure they sign the course selection sheet. • Sign your form. • Return the course selection sheet to the high school guidance office no later than: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14th See your guidance counselor if you have any questions!

Additional Information • Honors/ AP courses must have teacher’s signature. • NOTE: All courses that require a signature will be BOLD AND ITALICIZED • Intermediate Guitar must have Mr. Timm’s signature. • American Government- Academic - requires a history teacher’s signature. • Marketing Education students will need to select a total of 12 trimester classes. (minimum of two trimesters) • Prerequisite for Senior Composition – English 11 Academic or English 11 Honors

  27. Additional Information (Cont.) • Concert Band (9th-12th) prior band course or director approval. EVERYONE ONE WILL SIGN UP FOR THIS! Students will then be placed in Symphonic Band per after auditions. • Students taking Marching Band or Flag Auxiliary will mark 16 trimester classes. • Swing Choir – tryouts – do not put in schedule, will be entered in later. (Sign up for Concert Choir) • Choir students can sign up for 2 or 3 trimesters. Please cross out 3 and replace with 2 if you only wish to take 2 trimesters. • Cell phone number on form.

  28. Additional Information (Cont.) • Advanced Art requires a signature from Mrs. Krueger. • Biotechnology – Seniors must have fulfilled Biology and Chemistry requirements. (Articulated credit criteria- see registration guide for details) • Course verification forms will be given to students in the Spring. (Last chance to make changes to your schedule for next year.) • Teachers will be available the rest of this week for signatures from 7:20 am to 7:40 am, if you do not have them in class this trimester.

Online Scheduling • Week of OGT’s March 10th – 14th students will need to come in early one day to do online scheduling in a lab or classroom. • 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (report to lobby) • Monday, 10th – Last names A- G • Tuesday, 11th – Last names H-O • Wednesday, 12th – Last names P- Z • Thursday,13th – Students who missed the scheduled day or could not make it • We will be here to help walk you through the process • It is great practice for College scheduling process • We will make announcements to remind you

  31. Schedule Changes • Course selections should be FIRM! • Selections determine: • How many sections are needed of that particular class • Number of teachers needed • Number of textbooks or supplies needed • Schedule changes must be requested within the first five days of each trimester based on course availability. • All schedule changes will be completed by the seventh day of the trimester. • Reasons for schedule change: • Correcting incomplete schedules • Resolving course selection conflicts • Meeting graduation requirements • Accommodating special needs students
