OFSTED Inspection 2010 Among the most striking features of this good, culturally diverse school is its sense of community, underpinned by an impressively strong and pervasive ethos of mutual respect and care for the individual. Inspectors were impressed by the outstanding network of pastoral care and academic guidance Students feel safe in this extremely cohesive and mutually supportive community Learning to Realise Potential

OFSTED Inspection 2010 • The school’s ethos, the range of facilities provided and the inclusiveness of the curriculum ensure that equality of opportunity for all is secure • Among the strengths observed in teaching were secure and enthusiastic subject knowledge, a productive rapport with students, confident use of technology and effective questioning and assessment. • There was outstanding practice in the specialist subjects • Behaviour seen in lessons and around the school was good • The vertical tutoring system has increased opportunities for older students to act as mentors to younger ones, who value this relationship. Vertical Tutoring • To develop greater sense of community and student leadership within school • To give our young people a fuller picture of life as a student at Winchmore, helping them understand what happens at each stage of school life • Students in groups of 24 from Y7 to Y13 • Active Tutorial programme • Academic Mentoring Tuesday 2.30 – 3.00 • Six Learning Communities Turner, Olivier, Mercury, Stirling, Olympic, Nobel Learning to Realise Potential

Supporting transition at Winchmore • Head of Learning and tutor are key staff • Vertical tutor groups of 24 • Visits to primary schools to discuss curriculum and individual students • STEPS programme and Nurture Group for targeted students • Learning support for SEN, EAL • Literacy & numeracy catch up sessions • BEST Team mentoring & support • Transition projects, visit and initial day Learning to Realise Potential

  16. Secondary Transfer 2013 • Deadline for completed forms to admissions or online is 31st October 2013 • Criteria for admission: • Looked After Children • Exceptional medical grounds • Brother or sister also at school • Distance (measured using IT system) Learning to Realise Potential
