  1. Welcome Sylvionics Inc. Sylvia Wallach Owner, author, workshop leader

  2. The Company Sylvionics Inc. Sylvia WallachOwner, author, workshop leader Sylvia Wallach has been working with children and teachers for more than 30 years. Drawing on her experience as a music educator, Sylvia brings her unique blend of language play, drama, and music to teaching and learning. She has presented at conferences throughout North America, Australia, Israel, and Canada. Sylvia is the author of the 4 R’s (Rhythm, Reading, Rhyme and Rap) series for early childhood, as well as Create and Celebrate, a music and language integration series for grades three and beyond.

  3. Sylvia believes: Sylvionics Inc. Learning is like building blocks – one skill builds upon another. When children connect with their senses, they connect to symbols of text. Through drama, music and movement, children explore and experience the rhythm of language, and become more connected to the concepts and vocabulary found in the story. Confidence grows as children experience success.

  4. Sylvia believes: Sylvionics Inc. The integrated approach to education makes for deeper, more personal learning experiences. Using music and literature, children dramatize the story before working with text and written language. Once they have explored the story through the arts, they are ready to make the leap to literacy.

  5. The Approach “This approach is a wonderful way to make history come alive. …” It makes more sense to dramatize a story before reading it. When you bring it to them to ready, they’re ready. Wallach involves as many senses as possible, helping children with mixed learning modalities be better prepared to tackle written language.

  6. Sitting Still Sylvionics Inc. Nobody sits still for long when Sylvia Wallach is at the head of a class. Her philosophy of education is to engage the body as well as the mind to enhance learning. “It’s integrating the left and right brain. … If you have the concept first and go to the language next, you are making an opportunity for the peripheral children to have success … when body and language are the same, that’s integration for the left and right brain.”

  7. Benefits Sylvionics Inc. Benefits of Sylvionics approach All senses are used to explore and experience language. Students struggling with traditional teaching styles respond keenly to this approach. It allows them to move, talk, sing, create and play with concepts before they are required to produce a formal product (story, poem, and so forth) This approach is fun, inspiring, and successful for children at all levels of learning.

  8. Workshops Sylvionics Inc. Workshop Topics Sylvia has a number of workshops designed for very young children, to more advanced, confident readers. Her workshops give teachers tools to work with rhyme and rhythm to build understanding of language. Resources used: nursery rhymes, familiar children’s literature, and original music and songs by Sylvia Wallach.
