A Recipe For Leadership • During the Middle Ages, there were 4 basic forms of political organizations: • The Roman Catholic Church • Monarchies-rule by Kings & Queens in places like Spain, England, France • Holy Roman Empire, a loose confederation of some 300 states of people of different sizes, languages, cultures, loyalties • City-States located mostly on the Italian peninsula & Central Europe- examples Venice, Florence,Naples

According to Machiavelli,a Leader must be: • Cynical & ruthless, have little regard for human morality, view people as evil • PRAGMATIC, • “you don’t care if it is right or wrong, only that it works”, • do anything to ensure security of the state • (kill, lie, steal, wage war, do anything to maintain power • A leader must be POPULAR, • Give the façade(false front) of being • Kind, thoughtful, humble, religious • Fake these
