  4. Volunteer Roles 1. Helping in the classroom • Listening to children read • Math fact practice • Reproduce materials • Work in the library • Make and play instructional games 2. Volunteering for PTA or Special School Events • Carnival • Cultural Arts Event at night • Field days 3. Helping with field trips 4. Helping with school programs

  5. Equipment for Use by Volunteers • Copier, paper cutter, die cut machine, and laminator located in Room 114. Please do not attempt to use the laminator if you are not sure how to operate it. See Mrs. Welsh if you need help/instruction. • Paper rolls are located in the hallway by the bathrooms upstairs. • Please do not try to fix or use a broken copier!

  6. Sign In/Sign Out Wear a Badge • Please use the computerized name tag system in the office. By signing in as a “Volunteer” your hours are automatically recorded. • Wear your name tag at all times. • Use the personal time sheet to log your “at home” hours. • Maryland State Department of Education gives recognition to schools who meet the criteria of 2 hours of volunteer time for each student enrolled at the school. We need to document approximately 1400 hours of your time to earn recognition this year. Have a positive attitude.

  7. Hours that Count • Volunteer at OGES • At home working on teacher’s materials • Field trips • PTA functions – Carnival, Movie Night, Spelling Bee, etc. • Babysitting while another parent volunteers at the school • ANY TIME SPENT VOLUNTEERING FOR OGES

  8. Attendance • If you are going to be absent, please call the school and leave a message with the secretary. • Teachers rely on you to be a key player in the instructional program.

  9. Handbook For Volunteers • A quick reference for all issues, rights, and responsibilities of volunteers in FCPS.

  10. Bullying, Harassment, and Intimidation • If you witness any behavior that you consider bullying or harassment of a student or staff member, please do the following: • Tell the classroom teacher • Tell the guidance counselor • Tell an administrator

  11. Crisis Information • Fire drill • Exit the building • Drop, Cover, Hold • Move to an interior hallway • Partial lockdown • Exterior doors locked, business as usual inside the building • Full lockdown • Quickly move to the nearest classroom

  12. Bloodborne Pathogens • Bloodborne pathogens can enter your body indirectly by body fluids that inadvertently touch your eyes, nose or mouth. • The Bloodborne pathogens of greatest concern in the school setting are: - Hepatitis B - Hepatitis C - HIV

  13. Preventive Measures • Assume that any blood or bodily fluid is infectious. • Avoid blood and bodily fluids and create a barrier. • If an incident occurs with a potential exposure: • Notify the principal immediately. • Always approach any and all individuals as if they could possibly be infected.

  14. Confidentiality • Don’t share any personal or confidential student information • Keep all student records private • Do not administer any medication or share any medical information • Do not discipline a student • Concerns should be addressed with the teacher or administration • Please sign the confidentiality agreement form
