  4. A rigorous, year-long college-level course, AP English prepares students to read, analyze, evaluate and write critically about a wide variety of classic, foundational, and contemporary works. Socratic seminars, oral and written presentations, examinations, and projects allow students to develop their ability to analyze unfamiliar text passages and poems on the required Advanced Placement exam.   6. We start each day with bellwork. The learning target is posted and announced each day. The activities and assignments are aligned to the learning target/standard(s). There are frequent checks for understanding. Classroom Routines

  7. As we prepare for the Advanced Placement Exam in May, the expectation is that students will read, write, and think critically in order to meet the demands of an academically rigorous course. I want students to be prepared for post-secondary education. Academic Expectations

  8. Because this is an AP class, homework will be assigned (i.e. outside of class reading, written projects, etc.); however, I am mindful of the word “balance”. Homework Policy

  9. We will use Google Classroom and Turnitin.com. We will have on-demand essays (timed writings). We will use AP Classroom (through College Board) to practice for the AP exam. The AP Literature Exam is May 6. The AP Language Exam is May 13. Assessments

  10. We will be using the new AP scoring guidelines for essays. Please have the student make an appointment with me to discuss how to improve. Grades will be updated regularly. Grading

  11. Be on time. • Be present EVERY day. • Be prepared. 5 absences- parent notification 8 absences- warning notice 13 absences- loss of credit Attendance
