Scar Removal Treatment

Scar is a normal process of tissue healing. It is the replacement of normal skin with fibrous tissue. It occurs after any injury, infection or after any surgical procedure. Irrespective of the etiology the scars can be disfiguring as it stands out prominent against the rest of the surrounding skin.

  5. Silicone Gel Sheets • Silicone gel sheets are thin soft malleable sheets which are directly placed of scars • The silicone in these sheet helps flattening of hypertrophic and keloid scars to some extent, however the duration of treatment is 4-6 months

  6. Scar Gels • There are Silicone gels which are also available and can be applied but they do not provide compressive force as compared to silicone gel sheets

  7. Dermabrasion

  8. Laser Skin Resurfacing • Fractional CO2 laser is commonly used for resurfacing scars • This laser removes the topmost layers of skin, allowing new, smooth skin to form

Skin Grafts • In this procedure, skin from other part of the body and is placed over the injured area • Grafts may not always be cosmetically pleasing because the grafted skin may not match the surrounding skin’s color or texture • The donor area from where the skin graft is taken will also leave some scarring which in due course of time will lighten, but skin grafts can significantly restore function to a large scarred area

Z-Plasty • Z-Plasty is a technique which is used to realign the scar in a more anatomical position parallel to the natural skin creases • This utilizes the surrounding laxity of skin to give new improved direction to scar for better healing • Z-plasty can also be used in releasing contractures of skin after post burn and or post traumatic scars
