  1. Lesson Plan – Lesson 4 Circumference 2

  2. LO To calculate the circumference of circles and semi circles. RAG Perimeter, Circumference, Radius, Diameter, Pi 04/01/2020 Starter Activity Mini white boards ready.

  3. Today we are learning I am starting the lesson on level _____________________ By the end of this lesson I want to be able to _____________________

  4. When we watched the dots move we realised that the circumference is not exactly 3 x bigger than the diameter. Once across twice across three times across and a bit further! The Circumference is a bit more than 3 times bigger it is x bigger.

  5. Without using a calculator, roughly how big is the Circumference of this circle? 4cm Using a calculator give me a more accurate answer.

  6. Without using a calculator, roughly how big is the Circumference of this circle? 9cm Using a calculator give me a more accurate answer.

  7. Without using a calculator, roughly how big is the Circumference of this circle? 1200cm Using a calculator give me a more accurate answer.

  8. Without using a calculator, roughly how big is the Circumference of this circle? 30cm Using a calculator give me a more accurate answer.

  9. If the Circumference is 90m, without using a calculator tell me roughly how big the diameter is ? ? Using a calculator give me a more accurate answer.

  10. How could we find the perimeter of this semi-circle 13 cm

  11. Task Specific Roles

  12. Maths – Learning Outcomes Level 3 - 4 To identify the radius, diameter and circumference of a circle. Level 4 - 5 To know that the circumference of a circle is roughly 3 x bigger than the diameter and to use this to find a rough estimate for the circumference of a circle. Level 6 – 7 To find the circumference of circles and semi-circle using Pi (Level 6)

  13. We will be using these Habits of Mind • I can work well in a group, listening attentively and taking on different roles when needed. • I can negotiate and follow ground rules, to ensure fairness and cooperation when working with others.

  14. C B A 3m 6cm 25.12cm Using pi = 3.14 In your groups complete the table below. Make sure that you discuss your methods with one another. D 130 cm 14 cm E

  15. Task Two The London Eye is 135 metres tall. How far do you travel if the wheel turns once? You must show all your working out. The wheel turns 50 times a day. How far does it go in a year?

  16. Maths Outcomes – Success Criteria Level 3 - 4 I identified the radius, diameter and circumference of circles. Level 4 - 5 I know that the circumference of a circle is roughly 3 x bigger than the diameter and I used this to find a rough estimate for the circumference of a circle. Level 6 – 7 I found the circumference of circles and semi-circles using Pi (Level 6)

  17. We will be using these Habits of Mind • I worked well in a group, listening attentively and taking on different roles when needed. • I negotiated and follow ground rules, to ensure fairness and cooperation when working with others.
