  1. Diameter QoS John, Pete, Avri, Glen, Tseno, Hannes, Tina presented by Tina TSOU IETF 67, San Diego, November 2006

  2. Status • Mailing list discussions about the direction we should take. • Strawman proposal to see how proposal by Avi Lior would look like: http://www.tschofenig.com/svn/draft-tschofenig-dime-diameter-qos/diameter-qos-strawman-00.txt • A draft group (Hannes, John, Pete, Avri, Glen, Tseno, Tina) worked out http://tools.ietf.org/wg/dime/draft-tschofenig-dime-diameter-qos-01.txt • Presentation about approaches taken by other SDOs at the “Diameter QoS Dinner” (Sunday, 9th July). SDOs working on QoS related to this problem include • 3GPP • 3GPP2 • DSL • Wimax • TISPAN • ITU-T

  3. Overview • Diameter solution consists of the following building blocks: • Packet Classification (current work ongoing to align it with RADIUS) • QoS parameter description • Usage scenarios

  4. QoS Parameter Description • Different organizations plan to use different QoS parameters • Unlikely that we (DIME, IETF) is going to find a parameter set that everyone wants • Problem sounds familiar? • Investigate whether we can reuse existing work done in TSVWG and NSIS • Flexibility and extensibility when it comes to the parameter usage

  5. Usage Scenarios • QoS Parameters can be used in a number of Diameter applications (such as NASREQ, EAP, DCC) • Initial requests, client performs re-authorization, Server requests re-authorization, Server terminates session (e.g., credits exhausted), Client terminates session, .... • Not difficult but it takes some time to describe them in a reasonable level of detail.

  6. What editors have done between IETF-66 and IETF-67 • Investigate QoS parameter problem • Compiling a new draft update http://tools.ietf.org/wg/dime/draft-tschofenig-dime-diameter-qos-01.txt for the working group to analyze

  7. Difference between 00 and 01 • updated the binding & push method in section 3.2 QoS authorization models • also corrected some small errors as given in the comments in the draft group mail discussion

  8. Next Steps • In WG DIME charter: - Diameter QoS application. This document will develop a newDiameter application for supporting QoS in AAA deployments. The NSIS WG will be consulted on proper design of QoS attributes. • Do people think it is ready to go to initiate as a WG draft as it is in WG item?
