FBAC Findings, 2012-2013 • Survey of 309 Stafford County citizens • 41% of respondents did not think SCPS provides citizens with enough information on the budget or its processes • Information most desired included staffing (72%), programs (71%), and funding (69%) • 66.3% of respondents were not confident they understood the connection between the SCPS budget and local/state taxes • Respondents reported receiving information through school websites, local newspaper and email; low utilization for social media, school newsletters, TV, school board meetings • Recommendation to develop communications tool for public consumption

  5. Objectives Identify effective media to communicate budget information Develop useful tool to convey budget information to the public

Communications Strategy • Community Outreach • Target: Ministerial Associations, Senior Citizens, PTOs, other groups • Action: School Board/SCPS officials speak and conduct Q&A sessions on budget • Media Publications • Target: HOA Newsletters (Landmark Property Mgt, Aquia Harbor) • Target: Local Newspapers (Free Lance Star/Stafford County Sun) • Action: Publish Budget Facts and/or budget-specific articles • Television • Target: Public Education/Community Channel • Action: Conduct briefings and/or interviews with School Board members, SCPS Administration • Printed Pamphlets • Target: Libraries, schools, etc. • Action: Publish and distribute hardcopy budget information For more budget information, visit: http://stafford.schoolfusion.us/

  9. Recommendation Adopt use of Budget Facts and publish in HOA newsletters and local papers Develop community outreach strategy targeting community groups, media publications, television and distribution of printed pamphlets
