  2. Advice from ESL Learners • When discussing the best ways to teach English as a second language to students we usually never include their input or ideas. • Article asks students from a Massachusetts school what they would say to the teachers who taught them English.

  3. “Don’t Worry So Much” • Both the teacher and student will learn new things • The experience is new for all people involved

  4. “Help Us Many Times” • Be patient • Slow down • They may need the same idea or word explained 5 or 6 times

  5. “We Need To Play In English” • Informal Context • Fun (playground, cafeteria, with peers) • Helps give them confidence when speaking the language

  6. “My Mom Doesn’t Understand” • This includes - school policy - homework -meetings & appointments - athletics & clubs

  7. “Don’t Hit Us” • Be aware of their culture • They know you won’t hit them but it is hard to forget • Take the time to listen and get to know your students
