  1. Welcome to Mrs. Novak’s class Arizona College Prep Erie Campus Strive for the impossible and be extraordinary!

  2. First, we need to get acquainted… My name is Mrs. Novak… This is my 18th year of teaching. I taught in California for 2 years and this is my 16th year in Chandler. I taught 4th grade for 10 years and then decided to move up grade levels to teach History and Sign Language. My Bachelor’s degree is in Deaf Studies from CSUN. My Master’s is in Curriculum and Instruction from ASU. Some of my favorite foods are sushi and a great steak! I enjoy all kinds of music and my passion is theater. I love to bike, read books and watch movies. Traveling is my dream. My husband and I are empty nesters with both of our children have recently moved to the Pacific Northwest for college. We keep busy taking care of our two Yorkie dogs.

Curriculum – 8th grade Honors • TEXT AND PROJECTS - Semester 1 • Text Reference: American History & Civics/Economics • Projects: • Informative/Research Essay on an event or personality of this time period (1750-1840) • historical maps • Government related projects • Assessments: • Unit Examinations • Geography quizzes and a final exam on the geography of the United States. • Semester Final will be given. • TEXT AND PROJECTS - Semester 2 •  Text Reference: American History & Civics/EconomicsProjects: • WWII projects, Holocaust Research/presentation • A-Z book historical projects • Assessments: • Unit Examinations • Geography Quizzes and a final exam on the geography of Europe. • Semester Final will be given.

My Webpage To obtain information about my assignments, projects, study guides, due dates … you will need to go to our school webpage and then click on faculty and my name: http://ww2.chandler.k12.az.us//Domain/1516 I will have a blog on my webpage for updates on what was completed in class and what homework is due for the next day. Any additional handouts will be available when the student’s return.

  5. Supplies: Students will need the following items: • 1- Composition Book • 2- Folder or small binder for handouts/maps • 3- Colored Pencils and writing utensils • 4 - Flash Drive • CLASSROOM SUPPLIES: Kleenex is always needed, and appreciated.

  6. Close-Up Foundation • Pending Board approval, ACP is planning an 8th grade High School educational trip to Washington D.C. again! • This will be the 8th year that we have participated. • We join together with ACP-Oakland students • We leave in June for a week. • Meetings will be coming up in August. • For more information, see www.closeup.org
