  9. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Overall: Heightened anxiety level all the time. Excessive worry Difficulty concentrating Difficulty identifying source of worry Tension nausea fatigue and headaches dizziness, heart palpitations, sweaty palms, ringing in your ears. Can lead to ulcers or high blood pressure

  10. Panic Disorder Overall: Sudden, frightening panic attacks lasting several minutes. Intense fear, something horrible about to happen. Feels like choking, heart attack-like Smokers at higher risk May lead a person to avoid certain activities: driving, malls, classes, air travel (agoraphobia) 3-6 million/year

  11. Agoraphobia Fear of being in places where it might be difficult or embarrassing to get out of quickly. Afraid of having a panic attack in public, avoid public places. Home= safe

  12. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Overall: Emotional distress or numbing due to life-threatening experience. Flashbacks and nightmares Causes: anxiety, social withdrawal Limbic system floods body with stress hormones. Catalysts: rape, explosions, war, earthquakes, plane crash, abuse, fire, kidnapping. 5.2 million/year

  16. Social Phobia General Social Phobia- Pathological shyness due to feeling that he/she is under scrutiny of others Performance Anxiety- Fright in situations when you are actually under scrutiny of others; sports, meeting, performance. **SAD Scale**

  17. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Overall: Anxiety caused by upsetting involuntary thoughts/obsessions. Causes compulsionto do certain repetitive rituals to ease anxiety. Fear something bad will happen if one does not give into compulsions. IRRATIONAL THOUGHT IRRATIONAL ACTIONS
