BPM Maturity Levels • Most companies are asking how to begin and are hearing about the BPM Maturity Levels, but: • Don’t know how to use this information… • Level 5: Optimizing • Continuous Process Improvement from quantitative feedback • Change management is standard practice across organization • Level 4: Managed • Processes are measured and controlled; Metrics defined • Organization is managed based on process • Process results can be predicted • Processes are automated and measured for improvement • Level 3: Defined • Processes are documented & standardized across organization • Process awareness with process documentation procedures • Documented processes are shared throughout organization • Use of BPM methodologies and IT for process automation • Level 2: Repeatable • Some processes are understood and can be repeated but not documented • Some process awareness • Success now associated to team members performing assigned tasks • Level 1: Initial • Organization has little, or no, process awareness • Few activities are defined; processes are ad-hoc, not planned, reinvented • Success depends on individuals [Source: Harmon, 2004; Fisher, 2004; Rummler-Brache, 2004; Rosemann et al, 2005]
