  3. Snow Removal and Ice Condition Program The original map that was used for showing conditions was a 20 foot wide by 12 foot high wall map that had been wired so that different color push pin led lights showed the condition as they occurred The color coded map indicates conditions as both a county wide rating, as well as specific conditions for major routes. The information displayed on the map is updated at all county offices and automatically updates the map. By 1994 the maker of the lights stopped production and by 1997 the stockpile ran out and they were going to have to be hand made

  4. In 1998 the decision was made to provide a web based map to replace and enhance the current functionality that had been provided by the original wall map. Using Sylvan Maps API with tiger files and SQL server for the database and visual basic for data entry front end this version of the map. For the next 10 years for intranet map fulfilled the needs of SRIC program efforts. After the 2008-2009 season the request to make the application available to the public for the 2009-2010 season was made Some of the technology used on the first map was no longer being supported by Microsoft plus some discussion were made about future features that would be added to the map over the next couple of years. The decision to create the third generation of the application using ESRI technology along with modifications to the data entry program and the SQL server database was made

  5. http://gis.wvdot.com/SRIC/index.html The first storm of the 2009-2010 SRIC season we were expecting 10,000 hits The first storm began Friday evening and by Sunday afternoon the SRIC map received close to 100,000 hits Over the rest of the SRIC season the application was viewed just about 300,000 times a month
