  3. Look for the short quote WITH an author lead-in . . . Rogers (2007) feels that “this does not represent a conflict of interest.” Or Rogers (2007) feels that “this does not represent a conflict of interest” (p. 22). 1

  4. Look for the short quote WITHOUT an author lead-in . . . The need for continuing education “has become apparent to all” (Jones, 2009). OR The need for continuing education “has become apparent to all” (Jones, 2009, p. 22). 2

  5. Just be sure your third quote fits the requirements. 3

  6. Look for your paraphrase . . . 4 No quotation marks! Example: The need for continuing education has become apparent to all (Jones, 2009). Example: Rogers (2007) feels that this does not represent a conflict of interest. 5
