  2. COMMON TYPES OF RESOURCE BOXES • A book with an accompanying CD • A container with book and CD or tapes • A set of DVDs • A container holding a variety of items • A Storysack

  3. A book with an accompanying CD • Create a bibliographic record (use Z-cataloguing where possible – Libraries Australia) • Pay attention to the description • Remember to identify the GMD in square brackets • CD & book will have the same bibliographic record unless they have different ISBNs

  4. A book with an accompanying CD - continued • Add items • The book has a K barcode on the outside and a status of Resource Box • The CD is given an E barcode

  5. A book with an accompanying CD - continued • Proceed to construct a Resource Box • Follow the link to Resource Box Maintenance • Add the CD to the add items box and save

  6. A container with book and CD or tapes • Create a bibliographic record (use Z-cataloguing where possible – Libraries Australia) • Pay attention to the description • Remember to identify the GMD in square brackets

A container with book and CD or tapes - continued • Add items • The container has a K barcode on the outside and a status of Resource Box • The CD is assigned an E barcode • The book has a B barcode and a label on the bottom left-hand corner identifying it as an audiobook Proceed to kit the items as in the previous slides The total cost of the item is placed in the cost field of the kit – the other fields relating to cost and price should be left blank Audiobook

  8. A SET OF DVDs • Add items • The container has a K barcode on the outside and a status of Resource Box • The DVDs have E barcodes In the Junior & Infant Libraries we are identifying DVDs & Audiobooks with genre labels Proceed to kit the items as in the previous slides

A CONTAINER HOLDING A VARIETY OF ITEMS • At bibliographic level give the container a GMD of KIT • At bibliographic level add notes to describe the container & its contents. • Plastic box contains: 2 books and a DVD • In the Series field add the series Contents of resource box Z00000181 (put the barcode number of the container here). This should be the first item in the series field if there are multiple series. Items that are being entered as part of a resource box will need to have their own bibliographic record even if there is an identical resource (same ISBN) already catalogued because of the changes that need to be made to the record at bibliographic level.

  10. A CONTAINER HOLDING A VARIETY OF ITEMS - continued • At item level give the container a status of RESOURCE BOX • Give the container a COST that reflects the cost of the container only.

A CONTAINER HOLDING A VARIETY OF ITEMS - continued • The items that are to become part of the resource box will have their own bibliographic record and should have the following text written in the SERIES fieldContents of resource box Z00000181 (put the barcode number of the container here). • This can be searched for using the series search button if items are being added to an existing resource box.and in the notes field they should have Part of Test Kit : Resource box Z00000181 Clicking on the HOLDINGS in OPAC will also provide a list ofitems in the resource box
