Last Year: How Did We Do (a sampler)? • New Associate Deans of our MSW Program and Academic Affairs, Megan Meyer and for Research, Bethany Lee • Promise Heights becomes one of 50 federal Promise Neighborhood awardees • Deeply involved with Campus Strategic Planning • A greater campus commitment to community engagement (with SSW leadership) • New ways to teach evidence based practices to field instructors and students • No significant audit challenges (whew)! • SWCOS celebrates 20th anniversary with much aplomb & new Director • SSW State of the School address well attended • Convocation ceremonies at the Lyric continue to be a great event • Grant proposals totaling about $35m • Markedly strengthened the faculty with great hires in tenure-track and clinical lines • New place for Rock and Roll Holiday Party • Establishment of the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center at UM SSW
Looking Ahead for 2013-14 • Implementation phase of Campus Strategic Plan • Increased Effort re Community Engagement (Focus on West Baltimore) and opening of the Community University Partnership Center at the Campus Center • More incentives (& expectations) to be involved with interprofessional education and interdisciplinary research • Research Harbor becomes operational • Implementation phase of the SSW Strategic Plan • Completion of metrics that represent each objective • Baseline data collection • Integration into State of the School presentation in late winter

Maryland FY14 State Funding • State General Funds and Higher Education Investment Funds (HEIF) to system increasing by 5.1%. [First increase in last 3 years.] • A 3% COLA in January 1, 2014. • Also, likely merit pool of about 2.5% as of July 1, 2014 (still no guidance from USM on how to implement that). • UMB calls for a minimum of a 4% increase for in-state undergraduate tuition [will reduce the shortfall to undergrad education and improve situation for UMB. • Campus allows SSW to keep 2% (half) of that increase • Fall melt means that we have about 20 students (2%) less than expected • Funds also allocated for Mpower initiatives [UMB will contribute and State will give us about $1.6 m.]
Address Strategic Challenges • Health care reform and the integration of behavioral health and health • Social Work’s Uncertain Readiness • Making the UM SSW increasingly accessible, without losing quality • Provide leadership regarding community-engagement in W. Baltimore • Space • Communications
Summary of My Goals • Consolidate • Integrate • Communicate • Innovate • Celebrate
THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING THIS SUCH AN EXCITING, SUCCESSFUL, AND FRIENDLY PLACE TO WORK!
