  4. Discuss the Image Myth • Has the Image Myth always been the gold standard of feminine attractiveness? • Where does the Image Myth come from? What are its origins? • How is the Image Myth promoted to us? Who or what encourages us to view this image as ideal?

  8. Verbal challenge task Think of a time when you felt pressured by someone else (or maybe yourself) to pursue the Image myth For example: While trying on clothes, the sales person asks if you need a different size. You ask for one size larger and she responds, “That makes sense looking at your waist size. I have a new diet that worked great for me if you are interested.”Back then, you thought: “I need to lose weight.”How would you respond now to indicate you don’t agree with the Image myth? Now… return to your own example

  11. Body Talk Statements Does this make my bum look big? I'm not going to the swimming pool or beach. I love to swim but I just don't have a good enough body to wear a swimsuit. I'm thinking of getting Botox, do you want to do it with me? There is no way I can go to work without makeup. My skin just isn't good enough. I wish I had legs like yours! Then I could wear shorts. Have you thought about whitening your teeth? It would really improve your smile. It's so hot out, but I need to wear long sleeves because my arms are too flabby. You look great! Have you lost weight? Do you think that treatment for cellulite works? No one is going to want to date me with these thighs. I can't believe you posted that photo of me! Can you send it to me so I can photoshop it? I'm so tired of being flat chested. I'm going to get breast implants.  I wish I had white skin like yours! I have to start using bleaching cream ASAP!!!

  12. Challenging Body Talk • How do statements on this list keep the Image myth going? • Does a comment have to be negative to promote the Image Myth? • What can you say to stop this sort of talk, or how can you change the subject? • How would your feelings toward your body change if you were to stop talking this way? • If you stopped saying statements on this list, how would it affect others around you?
