Demat Acount Demat Account Opening • A demat account holds your shares and securities in an electronic format. • To open demat account you have to approach a depository participant (DP). • The DP will give a account opening form. You have to fill and submit the form along with the required documents and the physical shares. • The DP will open and update the account and deface the physical certificates. • The DP will give you your account number. • It takes a few days for the account to be available to you.

  3. Demat Account Requirements for Dematerialising the Shares • You can dematerialise the shares in your name only. This is the requirement of the demat account opening process. • If the shares have to be transferred in your name then you cannot dematerialise them till they are transferred in your name.
