The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the nodal agency responsible for regulating and supervising the food safety system in the country. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. One needs to obtain a food license from the FSSAI to carry out any business related to food manufacture, import, storage, distribution, sale, and transportation. The FSSAI food license is valid for a period of 1-5 years and needs to be renewed before its expiry. The process of FSSAI food license registration is as follows: 1) The applicant needs to fill up the online application form available on the official website of FSSAI. Required documents such as photographs, identity proof, address proof, etc. need to be uploaded along with the application form. 2) The applicant will then have to submit the completed application form along with the required documents and online fees at portal of FSSAI. The designated officer will verify all the documents and will either approve or reject the application within 60 days from the date of receipt of the complete application. In case of rejection, the reasons for such rejection will be mentioned in the order issued by the designated officer.
