  2. Factual Evidence Fingerprints • Wine Glasses – three wine glasses, two with separate finger prints, one wiped clean • Wine Bottle - bottle was wiped clean except for a latent print lifted the paper label by the Crime lab. No matches but suspects will be brought in for fingerprinting DNA • Saliva discovered on one wine glass that did not match the DNA of either Vanessa or Jeremy

  3. Factual Evidence Cont. Trace Evidence • Vanessa - small amounts of down feathers were discovered in her nostrils. Covered in a leaf from a tree native to Virginia. Animal hair also found clinging to her couch • Footprints – two set of mud-covered footprints leading up to Vanessa’s apartment, dirt originating from dense, damp forest that surrounds a popular vacation spot, Lake Newark. Boots prints taken from all suspects • Jacket - suspects jacket discovered with residue created from a fired weapon

  4. Motive for Murders Vanessa Martin • Mare Sue William – hated and bad-mouthed Vanessa, stole her boyfriend. Both fought for assistant manager position at Maul-Mart • Ben Boggs – dated Vanessa and was angry that she wouldn’t leave her boyfriend (Jeremy) for him • Mildred Smith – Vanessa was a noisy neighbor • Lindsey Parker – competed for assistant manager’s position against Vanessa at Maul-Mart • David Thomas – competed for assistant manager’s position against Vanessa at Maul-Mart

  5. Motive for Murders Cont. Jeremy Hayes • Marie Sue William – said Jeremy was sweet • Ben Boggs – Jeremy was the one who was dating Vanessa, and whom Vanessa wouldn’t leave to be with Boggs. The reason Boggs stopped seeing Vanessa • Mildred Smith – Jeremy brought in her garbage cans on a regular basis. Said he was a very nice man • Lindsey Parker – no known motive • David Thomas – no known motive

  6. Method of Murders Vanessa Martin • Prior to the murder, she was impaired through the use of a poisonous mushroom or plant source that made her weak and unable to fight in self defense • This was the toxic substance found in her stomach contents • The victim was then asphyxiated(suffocated) through the use of a feather pillow • This supports the evidence of down feathers that were found in her nostrils

  7. Method of Murders Cont. Jeremy Hayes • Impaired through use of mushroom based poison. • Shot in torso area twice. • Boggs seen early at Store behind the gun counter. • Two Muddy foot prints found in the house reveal that the murderers must have been in the forest.

  8. Murderer(s) Uncovered! • We believe that the murders are co-perpetrators : Mary Sue, and Ben Boggs. • We have made this decision based on all information gathered and written in the chart that we completed. • Mary Sue and Ben Boggs had motive and desire to kill Vanessa and Jeremy. • Both perpetrators were know to have been outdoors ( muddy footprints) • Ben Boggs known to be behind gun counter (shot Jeremy) • Mary Sue worked with groceries ( mushrooms/plants in dinner food) • Animal hair found in apartment (Mary Sue’s dog)
