  2. Introduction • The telecommunication industry in on increase both in terms of revenue and impact on the economy. • It provides lot of opportunities to maximize the gains.

  3. The telecom sector in India was under the government monopoly until the year 1994 when liberalization was gradually started.

  4. Figures published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), reveal that the number of telecom connection subscribers in India reached 562.21 million in December 2009, marking a 3.5 percent increase over the number 543.20 million reported in November 2009.

  5. Background • When India became independent in 1947,it already had about 82,000 telephone connections which rose upto 3 million in year 1985.

  6. Telecommunication sector in India is primarily subdivided into two segments, which are Fixed Service Provider (FSPs) and Cellular Services. • Telecommunications in India is a dynamic and increasing market.

  7. Technology • Telecom industry in India is placing special attention on latest technologies like GSM( Global System for Mobile Communications), CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), PMRTS(Public Mobile Radio Trunking Services), Fixed Line and WLL(Wireless Local Loop ).

Regulations The Government has taken the following main initiatives :- • All telecom services have been opened up for free competition for unprecedented growth. • 217 (Information Technology Agreement) ITA-I items are at zero Customs Duty. Specified capital goods and all inputs required to manufacture ITA-I, items are at zero Customs Duty

  9. Government of India implemented the unified access licensing regime, which enables basic and cellular mobile service to use any modern technology.

  10. Government Policies • The government is pushing more reforms by which more investment is being allowed in the public sector. More encouragement is given to foreign companies to come and invest in India.

  11. Economy • India is a developing country .Therefore it provides lots of opportunities for new investors to get successful. • Modern india has spending power and can be attractive market for investors to start business

  12. Demography • India has large population which in itself provides big opportunity to companies. • Estimates have revealed that by June2012, almost half India’s population will have their own o mobile phone.
