ATAX – origins and position: • The first and leading Tax School in Australia (1990) • Graduates in leading accounting & law firms, public & private companies and government departments • Academic staff with excellent research output and influence on tax policy and practice • Students engage in academic study and gain deep tax technical knowledge • Moved to ASB from Jan 2011 • School of Taxation and Business Law (Atax) • Considerably expanded our strengths

  3. Programs • Postgraduate programs by coursework • Require bachelor degree or equivalent • Bachelor of Taxation • Prepare students without undergraduate degree for work in the taxation industry

The BTax structure and rationale • Core knowledge areas • Tax • Accounting • Economics • Law • 3 years fulltime or 6 years part time • 12 core courses • 10 elective courses • General Education courses • Accredited with CPA Australia & ICAA • Dependant on choice of electives • Tax Practitioners Board application and rewrite

  5. The BTax study modes • Flexible distance mode • Online • Face to face • Intensive • Sydney CBD • (Currently only available for some electives)

Entry to B Tax • Through UAC 2012 ATAR = 80 • TAFE study and HSC • In calculating ATAR more weight given to TAFE studies than HSC: 75%/25% • Study post TAFE may be taken into account • Completion up to 7 years prior • Must • not be excluded, suspended • have adequate English language skills IELTS 6.5
