What is HMIS? • A Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a community-based software application that collects and reports on client-level information about the characteristics and needs of people who are served by programs intended to prevent and end homelessness • Measures program effectiveness • Measures patterns of service use • Produces unduplicated count of homeless

  3. SSVF & HMIS • SSVF Requirements: • Participate in your local HMIS • Required to export HMIS data monthly and upload into VA Repository • If local requirements conflict with SSVF program requirements, contact your regional coordinator to seek technical assistance

  4. Roles & Responsibilities • Grantee • Compliance: HMIS participation; data quality, governance, privacy, and security standards, • CoC Participation: system planning, HIC, PIT • HMIS System Administrator • Software Solutions Provider / Vendor • Continuum of Care (CoC)

  5. Grantee Monthly Upload Process STEP 3: Grantee Uploads into VA Repository STEP 2: HMIS Administrator OR Grantee Exports Data in CSV or XML format monthly STEP 1: HMIS Users Enter Data into HMIS

  6. Multiple HMIS implementations**REVISED GUIDANCE!** • If your program operates within the jurisdictions of multiple HMIS implementations; you can now select a single HMIS for purposes of data collection and reporting. • In the future, after revised HMIS data standards are effective, SSVF enrollments will be tied to a CoC code so HUD and VA will be able to disaggregate SSVF data by affiliated CoC.
