  1. Safety and Database Subsection ADO - PO - SA • Safety achievement and future activities • Database (see K. Pommes talk) • 08.09.2009 , O. Beltramello

  2. Recent achievement We are ready for 2009 LHC HW and Operation commissioning tests and for the 2009 LHC Run period • All safety systems have been maintained / upgraded and are receptionned • LACS/LASS and SSA (Systeme de surete ATLAS) have been upgraded and are ready for operation • FPIAA project (Sofia, Nuno, Xavier) • Phase 2 installation has been completed: sensors coverage extended now to the forward trenches, the Big Wheels gangways and the Open Configuration scaffolding zones

  3. Recent achievement • ATLAS cavern protection campaign against accidental He release in the LHC machineis finished(Nuno, Dimi, Raphael) • Q1, Q2 survey holes have been protected and sealed: • 110 mbars pressure resistant, special cut outs for survey equipment, ALARA principle respected

  4. Recent achievement • Survey galleries end of zone doors and walls have been redesigned: fire resistant, 110 mbars pressure resistant, sealed, with special cut out for the survey equipment , ALARA principle respected • A protection of the TAS area has been • designed and installed : • 110 mbars pressure resistant, ALARA • principle respected, sealed

  5. Recent achievement • US15 / UX15 end of zone doors have been changed to be fire resistant and 110 mbars pressure resistant and sealed. • All ventilation doors are monitored and • connected to LACS and LASS • The US15/UX15 and USA15/UX15 • holes have been sealed

  6. Recent achievement • ATLAS Pressure sensors installation (Fernando, Jan) • In collaboration with EN-CV, additional pressure pipes and sensors have been installed to monitor the overpressure between the caverns UX15, US15, USA15 and the tunnel sectors. • The overpressures will be monitored and and controlled at SLIMOS desk to identify a possible RP • Water leak detection system in racks is installed (Fernando, Charles)

  7. Recent achievement • Gate monitors at UX15 entrance and at SDX1 Buffer zone entranceinstalled and operational at SLIMOS desk (Serguei, Tatiana)

  8. Future development and activities • AL3 alarms safety system need under investigation • This system will be required to implement the ATLAS safety matrixes in a compatible way with RP requirements • (especially different ventilation matrix in case of UX15 Closed or Open mode) • Overpressure test campaign in collaboration with EN-CV group • Planned end of September to control that the overpressure requirements between the tunnel , US15 service cavern, UX15 cavern and USA15 service area are met. • Final ID CO2 test campaign with the shafts closed and ventilation in LHC run mode (air recycling).

  9. Future development and activities • FPIAA project upgrade : • Replacement of the sensors supports and sensors connectivity to minimize the replacement and disconnecting time (ALARA) • Creation of the Surface Radioactive Buffer Zone • To be ready for the 2010 Shutdown period • SLIMOS desk improvement • Patrols : Patrollers training and shifts start up • General ATLAS training to be revised • Configuration control / seismic analyses

  10. Future development and activities • ALARA activities : • Analysis of the ATLAS closure activities is on going • Analysis of the specific activities for the coming shutdown period • Development of a strategy and procedures to control all ALARA aspects for the persons and per activity, development of the associated personnel database. • Augmented reality project : • A pilot project is run to evaluate a tool to minimize the time of intervention for specific maintenance in highest radioactive regions of the detector

  11. Future development and activities • ALARA activities : • Contact with specific companies specialized in maintenance in radioactive environment for specific interventions • Participation to the upgrade activities (IBL, Lar,..) • Participation and follow up of the Radioactive WS creation at CERN • An ALARA Work Shop will be run in October
