  1. What is an editorial? • opinion piece: an article in a newspaper or magazine that expresses the opinion of its editor or publisher

  2. What is a topic sentence? • A topic sentence is the most important sentence in a paragraph. • Sometimes referred to as a focus sentence, the topic sentence helps organize the paragraph by summarizing the information in the paragraph.  • Sometimes at the beginning of a paragraph, but does not have to be.

  4. Outlines • Outlines help you to organize your thoughts and your writing • They keep you on topic • Help you to determine what you know and what you still need to learn • Helps you in the writing of your final draft

  5. What to do first? • Brainstorm and outline and title • Make a chart showing what you want to discuss and your opinion as to whether it was good or bad • What are the positive effects of industrialization that you want to discuss? • What are the negative effects you want to discuss? • What recommendations do you want to make regarding how to improve those negatives? • Due Monday: outline of your editorial, draft of your title
