  2. 1. atrophy (verb) • To waste away; wither. • To cause to wither. (noun) • The emaciation of tissues, organs, or the entire body. • Any wasting away. Ex: Yolanda underwent extensive physical therapy to exercise the leg that had atrophied while in a cast.

  3. 2. debilitate (verb) • To make feeble; weaken. Related Word: debilitation Ex: Heavy blood loss during surgery debilitated Mr. Jones and impeded his recovery.

  4. 3. livid (adj) • Discolored, as from a bruise; black and blue. • Ashen or very pale, from anger. • Extremely angry. Related Words: lividly; lividness. Ex: After falling off her bike, Nell’s shins were livid for a week.
