  1. On The Spot Courier Services

  2. Overview • The Team • Scope of OSCS System Development • System Architecture • Hardware Interfaces • Software Interfaces • Communication Interfaces • System Structure • Database • Module Relationships • Client Screenshots • Site Adaptation

  3. The Team • Jason McLean – CEO/CIO of GMK Consulting • Doris Kerns – Systems Analyst • Jon Giraldo– Programmer and Software Developer

  4. Scope of the OSCS System Development • The software and hardware requirements for the implementation of the OSCS system is intended to automate the request, pickup, and delivery of local client packages. • This system provides web access for all customer and staff functions. • The user interface will be intuitive enough so that no training is required by customers or staff. • All online financial transactions and the storage of confidential client information will be done in a secure environment.

  5. System Architecture It was determined that there would be three unique groups of users that would access the system: • Clients • Employees • Owner Each user group would be presented with only the options available to them, based upon their logon credentials. There are 3 basic components to the system: • Database Engine • Web Server • Client Hardware

  6. Hardware Interfaces • Client Hardware • Computing Device • Printing Device • Employee-level Hardware • Tablets for system access • Portable Printers • Barcode Scanning Ability • Credit Card Readers • Owner-Level Hardware • PC/Laptop for System Access • Printer • Barcode Scanning Ability • Credit Card Reader • Backend Hardware • Windows Server • Routers/Firewalls

  7. Software Interfaces • Windows 7 Ultimate OS • Android Tablet OS • Windows Server OS • IIS & SQL • SQL Management Software

  8. Communication Interfaces • WLAN in office/warehouse • Wireless 802.11n on all devices • 4G LTE & Bluetooth communications on all field devices • Bluetooth on all portable printing devices

  9. System Structure • Database Engine • Utilize Microsoft SQL Server as the database engine. • Will host the backed up database which is used for central data storage. • Web Server • Microsoft Windows Server with IIS will be used to provide web services. • Provides clients with independent interface to the application data. • Client Hardware • Clients will utilize their own hardware; i.e. laptops, printers, etc. • OTS will provide the internal hardware as specified in the system requirements documentation.

  10. Database The new system will utilize a MS SQL database for data storage. Since On the Spot Courier Services doesn’t provide a product, it provides a service, the database will simply be holding customer information and anything associated with that customer such as name, address, phone number, past/current requests, package details, history, etc. The database will be accessed thorough the new website.

  19. Site Adaptation The new system will be implemented in a parallel run format. This will allow the company to continue operating without shutting down. A parallel run will also allow for comparing the performance results between the old manual system and new computerized system. Any issues that may arise during the initial start of the new computerized system will not affect the business due to the old manual system still functioning.
