  1. Bearings Learning Intentions To understand what a bearing is To be able to work out and measure bearings Success Criteria - By your next lesson To be able to explain what a bearing is and why we use them. To be able to say what the 3 key points are.

  2. Estimating Angles The Competition!! Starter

  3. The Rules of the game! An angle will appear on the screen, your job is to estimate the size of the angle. The winner is the person who gets the most points. • All angles are a multiple of 5. • If you guess the angle exactly right give yourself 3 points. • If you are 5° out give yourself 2 point. • If you are 10° out give yourself 1 point. • You will have 30 seconds to guess – then the answer will come up. Hint

  4. Estimate the Angle 10° - 1 point 15° - 2 points 20° - 3 points 25° - 2 points 30° - 1 point THE POINTS

  5. Estimate the Angle 140° - 1 point 145° - 2 points 150° - 3 points 155° - 2 points 160° - 1 point THE POINTS

  6. Estimate the Angle 125° - 1 point 130° - 2 points 135° - 3 points 140° - 2 points 145° - 1 point THE POINTS

  7. Estimate the Angle 60° - 1 point 65° - 2 points 70° - 3 points 75° - 2 points 80° - 1 point THE POINTS

  8. Estimate the Angle 90° - 1 point 95° - 2 points 100° - 3 points 105° - 2 points 110° - 1 point THE POINTS

  9. Total up your points

  10. BEARINGS WHAT’S THE POINT?

  12. Bearings – The Key Points Bearings are a measure of direction taken from North. Bearings are always measured in a clockwisedirection Bearings are always written in 3 figures. from North. clockwise 3 figures

  13. Example 1: What is the compass direction from Belfast to Omagh? ……………………What is the bearing from Belfast to Omagh? …………………… West from Belfast 270° Omagh Belfast North

  14. Example 2: What is the rough compass direction from Omagh to Newry? ……………………What is the bearing from Omagh to Newry? …………………… South East from Omagh 125° Omagh North Newry

  15. Example 3: What is the rough compass direction from Omagh to Sligo? ……………………What is the bearing from Omagh to Sligo? …………………… South West from Omagh 245° North Sligo
