Goals • To introduce and immerse ourselves in the cultural and social experience of an African nationand the African continent • To instill a fundamental appreciation of the social, economic and ethnic challenges in the history of a diverse and developing nation. • To understand the differing commercial challenges, and opportunities, of succeeding in business in South Africa as well as in Africa.

  3. Evaluation • To receive credit for the course participants must: • Complete advanced work • Book • Background material • Team site preparation • Attend all pre-travel meetings • Attend and participate fully in all activities and site visits during the module

  4. Pre-Work • Read one of 10 selected books on South Africa, some examples are • Country of My Skull: Guilt, Sorrow and the Limits of Forgiveness in the New South Africa. • South Africa: The First Man, The Last Nation. • Tomorrow is Another Country: The Inside Story of South Africa’s Road to Change. • Disgrace: A Novel • Kaffir Boy, The True Story a Black Youth's Coming of Age in Apartheid South Africa • Read current economic and social conditions briefs on South Africa • Prepare for site visits (team) • We will meet at least twice before departing, with one meeting on Tuesday, February 26

  7. Estimated Cost • Airfare: $1,784 as of today • Tour Cost: $3,229 • Accommodation • Ground transfers & intra-country flights • Gratuities • All breakfasts, 3 of 10 lunches, 4 of 10 dinners
