Voice & Data A true multimedia experience that transforms the way we communicate (e.g. VoIP, Voice over cable, Mobile VoIP) Devices Telecoms functionality added to laptops, games, music consoles and vice versa (e.g. Nintendo with Wi-Fi, Mobile with Walkman, iPod with phone) Media & Network Reinventing home entertainment (e.g. IPTV, movie download) FMC Allow customers to enjoy the best of both worlds (e.g. BT Fusion) Voice & Data Devices Media & Network Fixed & Mobile

IP-Convergence & IMS >> IP Multimedia Subsystem Technical View • Standardization • - First introduced in 3gpp R5 in 2002 • - 3gpp R6: internetworking with Wlan • - 3gpp/ Tispan R7: support for fixed network • SIP is used as signaling protocol in IMS • IMS – a layering architecture • Application layer: • All IMS services are deployed on this layer • Signaling layer: • A common control plane that initiates & manage all call sessions • Transport layer: • - Networks like mobile, fixed, wireless,.. are considered as access networks to IMS IPTV Application layer conversa presence others HSS DNS/ENUM I-S-CSCF IMS control P-CSCF MGCF MRF c/p Transport layer IP core network Mobile access Wireless access Fixed access

  7. 2. Rich Communication Suite IMS Services RCS was established in May 2007, supported by many operators & infrastructure vendors. The main objective of RCS program is to speed up the introduction of commercial IMS services. Business with IMS - Walled garden: deliver services on its own existing network - Smart pipe: support its own services, partners’ services or 3rd party’s services - Federated IMS: combination of walled garden & smart pipe - … • IMS is not a business model itself but it implies changes in business model Opportunities
