  1. Bloom’s Taxonomy Developing Higher Level Questioning Skills

  2. The definition of taxonomy: the study of the general principles of scientific classification. Classify:arrange (a group of people or things) in classes or categories according to shared qualities or characteristics.

  3. What is classified or arranged? What are the categories?

  4. Bloom’s Taxonomy is: a standardized categorization of learning objectives in an educational context.

  5. Why do we need Bloom’s? Why is it important to classify learning objectives? Why do we need to arrange thinking skills?

  6. Now, let’s learn the verbs! • Read through the list of verbs used to create questions and answers in Bloom’s Taxonomy. • For each bold vocabulary word, students must write the definition in their notebook. • These verbs will be used to ask and answer questions in high school and college!

  7. Practice Time - Knowledge Recall: Who is this man and why has he made history in America?

  8. Practice Time - Comprehension Describe: What does this chart represent?

  9. Practice Time - Application Apply: Tell what would happen if this family was living 50 years ago during the Civil Rights movement.

  10. Practice Time - Analysis Compare and Contrast: Create a chart that compares and contrasts the differences and similarities of these two pieces of art

  11. Practice Time – Synthesize Predict: What would happen if someone came to school dressed like Miley Cyrus on Halloween?

  12. Group Work – Create your own Q’s Examine your piece of art Review the levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy Create 1 question per level, which equals 6 questions total Groups will rotate their artwork and questions to the left New group will answer the questions

  13. Individual Work – Read & Ask Read the text provided Annotate the text using these 5 steps: circle unknown words, underline main points/key ideas, mark ‘!’ next to things that surprise you, mark ‘C’ next to things you connect with, and mark ‘?’ next to things you question and write those questions in the margins Create 6 questions – 1 per level of Bloom’s
