  4. Financial Aid Overview • What is Financial Aid? Financial Aid is money in the form of loans, grants, scholarships and Employment (work study programs) Financial Aid is used to assist students in meeting the cost of attending college, or other post secondary school institutions Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

Applying for Financial Aid • You should apply for Financial Aid ……… • If you are considering furthering your education after High School. • Even if you don’t think you and your family will qualify for aid. • As soon as possible after January 1, 2013 Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

Applying for Financial Aid :The Process • Complete the FAFSA • Online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov • Receive Student Aid Report (SAR) from Federal Government. • If necessary, make corrections to SAR and return. • Receive financial aid award letter from schools you applied to. Note: Many of the questions on the FAFSA will refer to your parents and your 2012 income tax form Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

  9. Filing the FAFSA Online: Paper FAFSA forms can be downloaded as a PDF file from www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov or you can call 1-800-4-FED-AID to request a paper application to be sent to you. If you need additional assistance obtaining a paper copy of the FAFSA, you can see your counselor. • Most colleges and the government prefer that the FAFSA be completed online because: • It eliminates mistakes • It allows both students and colleges to get results quicker Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

Completing the FAFSA • Pay attention to Institution, State and federal deadlines. • The lime green section is for reporting your information, and the purple section is requesting your parent(s) info. • When completing “Step Six” of the FAFSA always list a NJ School First. • New Jersey is ranked second in the nation based on the amount of grant aid provided to full time students who attend New Jersey Colleges. (NJEA Review-September 2008) • It is helpful to file income taxes ASAP after January 1, 2013. • Males – You must register for the Selective Service in order to qualify for financial aid. Completing the FAFSA- Creating a PIN Online • You will need to get A PIN so you can sign the FAFSA electronically. • Go to www.PIN.ed.gov to get a PIN, You can do this now, you do not need to wait until January 1, 2013. • You should not share your PIN with anyone • See the “Your PIN” FAFSA brochure, for more info on securing a PIN number. The CSS/Financial Aid Profile • The CSS Profile only needs to be completed if the school you are applying to requires you to complete it. • The CSS profile is an additional financial aid application. • The CSS profile can be completed online, and the instructions can be accessed at: • This profile requires a fee for each school: one time $25.00 application fee, which includes one school; $16.00 fee for each college you want information sent. • www.profileonline.collegeboard.org Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

Financial Aid Seminar • On Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 6:00 pm, in the Senior Cafeteria Oakcrest Guidance Dept. will host a Financial Aid Seminar. • The financial aid officer from Stockton will go over how to complete the FAFSA in detail. • All Students, Parents, Guardians and community members are welcome Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

  21. ACCC Jump Start Program • ACCC College admissions officers will come to Oakcrest on three different occasions to meet with potential students. The first meeting will be Friday, February 8th, 2013. Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

ACCC Jump Start Program • The purpose of the three meetings are to: • Meet and accept students into the ACCC and discuss educational objectives. • Administer the Basic Skills Test • Review the results of the basic skills test and select courses for the fall term.   23. ACCC Jump Start Program • To Participate You Need to: • Return a completed ACCC Application with a $35.00 application fee to your Counselor or Mr. Cocuzza by Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 • Be sure you return a release of records form Class + Pride + Dedication = Oakcrest Guidance

ACCC- NJ Star Program • NJ Stars program will award free tuition to students who attend community college • To Qualify: a student must attend a NJ High School and graduate in the top 15% of their class. (subject to change) • After the students 1st year in college, they must maintain a GPA of “B’ or better to remain eligibility for free tuition. NJ Stars II Program • The NJ Stars II program enables successful NJ Stars scholars to transfer to a New Jersey four-year public/private college or university and earn a bachelor’s degree with tuition awarded up to $2,500 per year. • Eligibility: a student must maintain a “B” average at their community college and earn an associate degree (subject to change). NCAA Clearinghouse • Athletic Scholarships – Division 1 and 2 only • Student Athletes need to meet minimum Core Content GPA and SAT score requirements • Students need to register online at www.eligibilitycenter.org • See your counselor for additional information and refer to page 50 in the course description book.
