  1. CBSA BORDER INFRASTUCTUREBorder Infrastructure Coordination Session November 1, 2011

  2. CBSA Environment and Priorities • Environment • Current Projects • Challenges • Priorities • Moving Forward

  3. CBSA Environment • Top 20 Ports of Entry (POE) process over 80% of the land border traffic; • Over the past decade CBSA has focused capital investment on the large volume ports of entry with a focus on the Designated Commercial Offices (DCO); • The majority of the CBSA’s larger DCO ports have been, or are in the process of being redeveloped and are functional and provide adequate serviceability;

  4. CBSA – Current projects • Modernization and expansion of commercial facilities at: • Pacific Highway – March 2012 • Abbotsford-Huntingdon – March 2012 • Lacolle – Summer/Fall 2013 • Port Replacement Projects at: • Prescott – March 2012 • Kingsgate – March 2012 • Aldergrove – 2013/2014 • Completion of Residential accommodation at remote Northern Ports of Entry: • Little Gold – October 2010 • Pleasant Camp – March 2011 • Beaver Creek – March 2012

  5. CBSA – Challenges • 50% of the CBSA inventory of smaller ports is over 35 years of age and can not adequately support new program initiatives such as the Doubling-Up; • Competition for limited resources; • Ensure that investment required to address the rust-out situation at the smaller and remote ports is undertaken without compromising the condition and functionality of the major DCO ports.

  6. CBSA – Priorities • Address operational and functional deficiencies at the larger DCO ports; • Lacolle, Emerson, North Portal • Recapitalized investment at the larger DCO ports; • St-Armand or Philipsburg, Woodstock, Pacific Highway • Port replacement Projects: • Pleasant Camp, Fraser, Stewart, St. Leonard • Small Port Replacement projects in support of the Doubling-Up initiative

  7. CBSA – Moving Forward • Continue to foster and improve relationship with Internal Stakeholders (Regions/Transport Canada) and External Stakeholders (PWGSC, GSA, FHWA, CBP, local Municipal/Provincial/State Governments); • Identify key priorities and the wider goals and outcomes sought by the Agency and the GoC; • Consolidate projects where efficiencies can be achieved;
